Finlay Milligan

I'm Fin and I'm an editorial Swiss Army knife with a keen eye for detail. I write about music, technology, and culture. I also love writing stories. Get in touch if you'd like me to write for you.

A bit about me...

I've been [deep breath] fact-checking, copyediting, copywriting, proofreading, and transcribing since 2014. I was brought on as the editorial assistant of the electronic music magazine Electronic Sound in 2015, to help its transition from digital-only to a 100-page print publication. Despite leaving the editorial team in 2020, I continue to contribute monthly articles to the Front Section of the magazine, covering topics ranging from new and upcoming gadgets and gear, music news from our favourite artists, as well as esoteric odds and ends from around the world.

Since 2020 I've been freelance, and have contributed writing and editorial to other publications such as Moonbuilding and Juno Daily. I'm also passionate about creative writing and storytelling, and have been working on my own projects. Give me a good book, a quiet cinema (no eating please), or a gripping video game and I'll be your best mate. Oh, and I'll bore you to death about my vinyl collection.

Read my words...

I'm a regular contributor to Electronic Sound, and you can find a digital collection of my writing here. My work primarily covers all manner of stories within the world of electronic music and its periphery satellites. I've spoken to Chromatics frontman Johnny Jewel about his creative process, and what it was like working with David Lynch; I've had a chat with legendary film director John Carpenter about re-entering the world of film scoring as well as his love of video games; and I spent some time investigating Work On Sunday, an arcane music festival that takes place in and around the city of Santiago de Compostela. Have a gander at a selection of my work which you can read for free.

Every fortnight(ish) I put out Happening Again, a newsletter that includes a round-up of music reviews, as well as any interesting stories from around the internet. I champion everything from the DIY to more mainstream musicians, although I try and pull focus on smaller artists that have trouble getting a look-in.
